Rotterdam: Kinderdijk UNESCO World Heritage Entry Ticket

1.Kinderdijk UNESCO World Heritage Entry Ticket

★★★★★★★★★★4.6 · 1,477 reviews · 1 day · from $25Our pick

Spend a full day at Kinderdijk, where 19 historic windmills line the polders near Rotterdam. Your ticket includes two museum mills, the pumping station engine room, an informative film, an online audio guide, and a boat ride through the site. You explore at your own pace, with no group guide leading you around.

“This is a self guided tour! Once you have bought a ticket, make your way there and start walking! Or you can catch the charming little boat that takes you to the small distance stop off points where you can actually go into two of the 19 operating windmills - the oldest from 1635 I think...do get chatting to your boat hosts and the fellows running the windmills and do watch the vidoes on the boats (only 9 minutes)”

Rotterdam: Waterbus Ticket to Dordrecht and/or Kinderdijk

2.Waterbus Ticket to Dordrecht and/or Kinderdijk

★★★★★★★★★★4.6 · 542 reviews · from $11Best value

Use a one-day Waterbus ticket from Rotterdam to reach Kinderdijk’s windmills, historic Dordrecht, or stops near the Biesbosch. Ride indoors or on deck, bring your bicycle or scooter free, and switch between lines as often as you like. This is public transport, not a guided cruise, so plan your own time at each stop.

“Finding the departure site was the only bad part of the experience. That needed to be more clear-give an address or gps info. The ride to and the time at Kinderdijk was wonderful. The price of admission was included with this ticket so it was a good value.”

Guides such as Jan and Bram are noted for lively commentary, but confirm the tour format before paying the premium price.

“The windmills are amazing, and so was the Girl With the Pearl Earring! We were a bit confused about the exact meeting spot—maybe add a photo to the website to make it a little easier to find the right place. We were pleased that the tour wasn’t cancelled because there were just two of us. Jan, the driver, gave us great information all along the way.”

6.Brussels: Holland Keukenhof & Kinderdijk Guided Day Tour

★★★★★★★★★★4.6 · 15 reviews · from $192

Travel from Brussels to Kinderdijk and Keukenhof on a 12-hour English or Spanish guided tour. Visit two working windmills, cruise the canals, and explore Keukenhof after a 30-minute introduction. The day includes long coach rides, so it suits you best if you value convenience and want both Dutch highlights in one outing.

“Thoroughly enjoyed the trip to Kekeunhof and Zaanse Schans. The gardens were in full bloom and it was a day with brilliant sunshine. Zaanse Schans was nice, touristic yes but serves the purpose of giving an introduction to windmills and cheese making. Our guide David was superb, very energetic and passionate about his work. Must add that the description by him was in two languages English and Spanish, probably there is a significant proportion of Spanish speakers who take the tour. The tour does involve significant travel time due to the distances involved, six hours plus in a twelve hour schedule.Read more”

★★★★★★★★★★4.5 · 8 reviews · 7 to 8 hours (approx.) · from $397

Travel from Amsterdam to UNESCO-listed Kinderdijk in a private car, then spend time in Delft, Gouda, Leiden, The Hague, or Rotterdam. Your English-speaking guide, including Gopinath, Gopi, or another assigned guide, handles the driving and can shape the second stop around your interests. Bottled water and parking are included.

“The trip was hard because the car was just too small for an 8 hour day for 4 average sized adults. It was a very warm day. The air conditioning did not reach those sitting behind the passenger and drivers seat because the person sitting on the hump in the middle seat had to block the vents. The guide was good and the sights a must see. On this trip we split our sightseeing between Tours by Locals and Viator. Because of this incident and the fact that our dissatisfaction didn’t produce a favorable outcome we will not be booking with Viator again.”
